Hi to all,
I am currently trying to research the best setup on a v12 e-type. i am looking to fit 48 ida carbs but have been told this will not work right on a standard car. I have tried googling more data but with no luck.
does anyone have any graph data/dyno results to show the power and torque curves on the ida weber kits or written data to show the advantages of fitting 40 ida instead.
Many Thanks |

i am no expert
and i don't have dyno sheets
but
IDF carbs are probably better for a street driven car. they have in my opinion better progression set up to get you from idle operation into main jet operation
the IDA is a carb that is specifically built for use in applications where 1/2 to wide open throttle operation is the norm rather than the exception but you still want unwavering A/F ratio
i.e most likely to be used on race (drag race) cars where cam overlap and hence idle quality and fuel consumption are not considered as important (you don't want it idling at 1200 on a street car)
and the only idle to mid range operation that happens is on the way from the pits to the start line
having said that its a weber carb so you already know it will do nearly everything better than the competetion (ok well may dellorto and solex can give them a run for their money)
and they do get used on the street
i.e you can make any carb work on any engine with access to the correct configuration/tools and are willing to live with certain limitations usually based on flow capacity, but its allways easier if you build your motor based on application, and yours sounds street or circuit (hence IDF) rather than drag race (often the domian of the IDA these days) and carb it based on cam and head flow.
the VW beetle drag racers can probably help with IDA stuff they love em. Its a lifestyle choice, bragging rights and all that...a lot of them would be better off with a set of 44 IDFs i'm sure or dare i say it 45 dellorto DRLA (the starter circuit is less prone to leaking)
again just my opinions based on lots of internet reading and my own experience with a small, in comparison to yours, VW motor
