I have 3 webers I have collected over the years.
First weber 32/36 DFEV was bought used (low miles from a 1.7L aircooled owner) for my 1987 dodge caravan 2.2L with 3 speed automatic (yes kickdown is correctly hooked up via a linkage I took from old carb), to replace rich running piece of junk holley 5220 carb. This POS holley carb that I had to rebuild 3 times with no luck on quality and mpg won't hold steady. I had to drill and tap weber's mounting pads to bolt on throttle kicker with throttle contact pad for the ancient spark control computer. This fixed most of bucking/near stalling when engine is cold since computer now knows the instant the throttle is opened from idle, but the small bog is still there. Timing is adjusted in best spot (around 8 degrees, stock was 6, if I advance more than 8, rpm drops and not knowing the computer's ignition curve so I play safe for time being.
I do have installed the wideband O2 and gauge so I have good idea what is going on. Choke is working wonderfully and when I'm still on the choke, engine have themendous power if I kick it, fuel supply not a issue. 32/36 Weber was carefully cleaned, passages blown through and done with geniune weber rebuild kit.
And pack of red box of jets and few extra jets. Float level is set (will ask about it later).
The 2 problems:
On this 32/36 DFEV I have tuned the idle jet, primary main & air jets. But the secondary seems does not do anything at all even put in large secondary main jet to see if I can blow black smoke when secondary opens. No luck even tried smallest air jet, no luck.
Picture this: In drive and at standstill, idling nicely, stomp full on throttle, engine revs up little then stutters and weakly. Back off onto primary, get power back. When van in motion and on the idle or primary, roll more onto secondary as to try to pass or go WOT, power goes flat but keep going or even slower (big flutter across whole scale on A/F gauge).
I already checked the passage for the secondary venturi from the emulsion well and it is filled with fuel and open to the venturi.
Second problem is how significent about the ignition curve is not right with the computer and need for vacuum advance distributor retrofitted and a coil ignitor? Second bog also could be caused by worn throttle bushings even I have good idle and no other leaks (measured 17Hg as I can go high on vacuum despite many adjustments on hot engine with minor flutter, far as I can tell is no miss).
Stumped!
What is the specs and right way of setting up the plastic float for DFEV? Lot of info out there but vague.
Tell me what is good about the 32/36 DGAV weber body/top I have vs DFEV? Very low use but missing much parts requiring whole junker DGAV to rebuild this. I also have DFAV for parts source but I know need some other items unique to DGAV if it is worthy using.
